Treasurer’s Report

MMA/PA received $500 from an anonymous donor.  Balance as of 3/16/05 is $12,774.82.  Expenses outstanding are a $900 charge for mugs.  For the 2005-2006 school year MMA/PA will provide six $1,000 scholarships increasing the number of scholarships awarded by 1, a 20% increase, achieving MMA/PA goal.  Many thanks to MMA parents, relatives and friends who purchased mugs, t-shirts, certificates, and raffle tickets to make this happen!

Admissions Liaison Report

Any parent interested in serving as MMA/PA Admissions Liaison, please contact Fuji at 1-800-544-3411 or fuji@maritime.edu for liaison responsibilities and Wendie Howland at wahowland@aol.com of the MMA/PA to give notice of interest.

Fuji is also asking for assistance for MMA’s Welcome Aboard Program 2005, Saturday April 2 from 8am to 3pm.  He needs any interested MMA Parents who can assist parents of incoming cadets by escorting groups of parents to various workshops.  Please contact Fuji at 1-800-544-3411 or fuji@maritime.edu.

Website Update

Thanks to Skid Schermerhorn, MMA/PA website is looking awesome!  Parents of incoming cadets are signing up.  Many thanks to the parents who submitted FAQ information.  The information is proving to be valuable to incoming moms & dads.

Hospitality Update

Jim Parker checked in with Bourne Chamber of Commerce.  Discounts to MMA/PA are still valid.  Anyone interested in purchasing an MMA/PA discount card (which never expires) can do so by contacting Jim at j.h.parker@verizon.net.  Cards are $5.  Proceeds go to MMA/PA.  Parents of incoming or current cadets looking for places to stay can check out MMA/PA website.

Fundraising Ideas

Ideas included:  Christmas ornament, Falmouth Road Race, Red Sox and Patriot Tickets, Calendar, Donation Letter.  Folks who presented idea to get facts and costs for next MMA/PA meeting.

Mary Ellen Daly has offered September 2005 Red Sox Tickets.  Ann Prete to write letter to Kevin Slein, (class of ’85) Director of Engineering and Facilities Operations for Gillette Stadium home of New England Patriots.

Other Business

Karen White presented Maine Maritime’s Family Handbook and is working with Fuji in preparing a Massachusetts Maritime Family Handbook.  The goal is to have a handbook ready for Welcome Aboard but realistic for 2005 Cadet Orientation.  Once complete, this handbook will be made available on the MMA/PA website as well as thru Admissions.

Saturday meetings were discussed so that more parents could attend.  The next meeting in June was discussed but because of timing (graduations, weddings, traffic) not good for a Saturday meeting.  The meeting in September more likely.

Bill McClellan presented a new 2-week leadership program to be offered to 8th and 9th graders to be held at MMA campus this summer.  This program is a joint effort between Cape Cod Collaborative and MMA.

Elections and Next Meeting

Slate of officers to be presented at next meeting, Wednesday, June 8th, at 7:00PM to be held at Blinn Hall, MMA Campus.  Anyone interested in open positions, please contact Wendie Howland, wahowland@aol.com.
